Aurora Borealis – the Northern Lights

Inverness gets regular displays of the Northern Lights, so you may be lucky enough to see them while staying in the area (the best time to spot them is between September and April). The optimum conditions for viewing are cold, dark nights and clear skies, when there is increased solar activity.  Viewing spots well away from light pollution offer the best chance of seeing them, and they’re often easier to spot through the lens of a camera than with the naked eye.
